trygohighlevelnow.com is an independent resource, not affiliated with or endorsed by HighLevel Inc. We participate in the GoHighLevel affiliate program, which means we may earn a commission when you start a trial or subscribe through a link on this site. You pay exactly the same price either way. We publish the drawbacks alongside the strengths — if a tool is wrong for your use case, saying so is worth more to us than a commission.

How we evaluate this comparison

We use it on client work
We run GoHighLevel sub-accounts for real local-business clients — chiropractors, med spas, and similar. The opinions here come from configuring and operating the platform as a paying customer, not from a demo video.
Prices come from the vendors, and are dated
Every price is taken from the vendor's own public pricing page and stamped with the date we checked it. Usage costs (SMS, email, AI) are listed separately, because the plan price is not the bill.
We name who should not buy
Any verdict that cannot tell you who the product is wrong for is an advertisement. Every review and comparison here names the people we think should buy something else.
We say when a competitor wins
Comparison pages include the rows where the other tool is genuinely better. We earn nothing when you pick the competitor, and we still write the row.

The commission does not change the verdict. We earn an affiliate commission if you sign up through this site, at no extra cost to you. It is also the reason we are careful: the fastest way to lose a reader permanently is to sell them a tool that is wrong for them. Where GoHighLevel is the wrong answer, we say so and send you elsewhere — including to tools we earn nothing from.

Ontraport alternative: is GoHighLevel better?

Most people searching for an Ontraport alternative are not unhappy with Ontraport's automation. They are unhappy with the bill, or they have realised that the software their competitor uses can answer the phone and theirs cannot. Those are two different problems and only one of them makes GoHighLevel the answer.

Ontraport pricing re-verified against their live pricing page on 12 July 2026. Their page is JavaScript-rendered, so we rendered it in a real browser — the $79/$147/$297 figures still quoted across comparison sites are out of date.

Choose GoHighLevel if…

  • You want an AI receptionist answering calls and booking appointments, not an AI that writes copy.
  • Your leads arrive by text, DM and phone call — and speed-to-lead is how you win them.
  • Your contact list keeps growing and you refuse to pay a ladder for it.
  • You serve multiple clients and want white-labeled sub-accounts you can resell.

Stay on Ontraport if…

  • Your revenue runs through a complex branching lifecycle campaign that already works.
  • You need custom objects — a real data model, not just contacts and opportunities.
  • You want deterministic, rules-based automation with no AI meter and no surprises.
  • Support that actually helps you build it is worth more to you than a feature list.

We earn nothing if you stay with Ontraport. Stay anyway if that list is you — their pricing is here.

The AI gap

This is the most lopsided AI comparison we publish

What Ontraport's AI actually is

Ontraport is not an AI company and does not pretend to be one. As of July 2026 its live pricing page lists an AI Assistant add-on starting at $20/month, available on all three plans, plus AI-powered responses inside the shared inbox on the Pro tier. That is real, and it is useful. It is also the whole of it. There is no voice agent, no autonomous conversational agent that books, no predictive scoring model, and no AI layer inside the campaign builder.

GoHighLevel, on the same date, ships Voice AI that answers an inbound call and writes the appointment into a calendar; Conversation AI that handles SMS, Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp and Google Business Profile messages; Content AI; Reviews AI; and an Agent Studio for building your own. Whether that stack is better than Salesforce's or HubSpot's is a genuine argument — it is not. But against Ontraport it is not an argument at all.

The meter is real, and you should look at it before you celebrate

GoHighLevel's AI is metered, and the number that surprises people is Voice AI: roughly $0.16 per minute blended once you stack the voice engine, the text-to-speech and the tokens. Two thousand voice minutes in a month is around $320 on top of your plan — more than the plan itself. Conversation AI runs about $0.02 per message and Content AI about $0.09 per 1,000 words, and there is an AI Employee bundle at $97/month that caps some of this.

Ontraport's $20/month AI Assistant does not meter, because there is far less AI to meter. That is a genuinely fairer model for a business that just wants help writing an email. Before you assume GoHighLevel is the cheaper AI, run your own call volume through our pricing calculator — it does this arithmetic honestly, and for a low-volume coaching business the answer sometimes goes the other way.

Where Ontraport wins

Three rows we are not going to pretend away

1. The campaign builder is better. Not "different" — better.

Ontraport's visual campaign builder is the most elegant automation canvas in this price bracket. For a branching lifecycle — a launch sequence with segmentation, wait states, re-entry rules and conditional paths that fan out and rejoin — it is clearer to build and vastly clearer to read six months later than GoHighLevel's workflow builder, which becomes a wall of steps at complexity. If you have ever had to debug someone else's automation, you understand why this matters more than a feature checklist suggests.

2. Custom objects. GoHighLevel does not have them.

Ontraport can model entities that are not contacts — properties, policies, courses, vehicles, matters — and relate them to people with a coherent data model. GoHighLevel gives you contacts, opportunities and custom fields, and when your business needs a third noun you end up abusing tags and custom fields until the whole thing becomes unmaintainable. This is a structural limit, not a roadmap item, and it is the single most common reason a serious operating business outgrows GoHighLevel.

3. Support and onboarding.

Ontraport helps you build it. GoHighLevel gives you 24/7 chat of inconsistent quality and an enormous, chaotic body of YouTube tutorials made by affiliates — a category which, in the interests of not insulting your intelligence, includes this website. The most common reason people quit GoHighLevel is not a missing feature. It is that nobody helped them through the first fortnight.

The verdict

If you want AI that talks to your customers, this comparison is over in one row and GoHighLevel wins it outright. If what you actually have is a working lifecycle campaign, a real data model and a support relationship you value, then "Ontraport has no voice agent" is a fact about Ontraport, not a problem with it. The honest version of this page is that most people searching for an Ontraport alternative in 2026 are searching because of the phone, and for them the answer is yes — but the ones searching because of the bill should read our GoHighLevel pricing breakdown first, because the meter is real. Our full GoHighLevel review has the section on who should not buy it.

Frequently asked questions

Does Ontraport have an AI receptionist?
No. As of July 2026 Ontraport ships an AI Assistant add-on starting at $20/month and AI-powered responses inside its shared inbox, but there is no voice agent — nothing in Ontraport picks up a ringing phone, qualifies the caller and writes an appointment into a calendar. GoHighLevel does exactly that with Voice AI, at roughly $0.16 per minute blended. If an AI receptionist is the reason you are shopping, this comparison ends on that single row and Ontraport is not the answer.
How much does Ontraport actually cost in 2026?
Ontraport's public pricing page is JavaScript-rendered, which is why stale figures circulate on comparison sites. Rendered in a real browser on 12 July 2026 it shows three plans — Plus from $83/month, Pro from $124/month, and Enterprise from $249/month — and every one of those is a "starting at" number that climbs with your contact count. Additional users are about $49/month each, SMS starts around $9/month, and the AI Assistant starts at $20/month. So the honest comparison is not "$83 versus $97". It is a metered contact-and-seat ladder versus GoHighLevel's flat $297 for unlimited contacts and unlimited users.
What does Ontraport do better than GoHighLevel?
Three things, and they are not small. Its visual campaign builder is the best in this price bracket — cleaner and more capable than GoHighLevel's workflow builder for genuinely complex, branching lifecycle marketing. It has a coherent custom-object data model, which GoHighLevel simply does not have; if your business has entities other than "contact" and "opportunity", Ontraport can represent them and GoHighLevel cannot. And its onboarding and support are a real strength — Ontraport will help you build the thing, where GoHighLevel hands you a 24/7 chat window and a YouTube search.
Is GoHighLevel better than Ontraport for AI?
Yes, and this is the most lopsided AI comparison on this site — we would rather say so plainly than pretend it is close. GoHighLevel ships Voice AI, Conversation AI across SMS and social DMs, Content AI, Reviews AI and an Agent Studio. Ontraport ships an AI Assistant add-on from $20/month and AI-assisted inbox replies. That is an assistant versus an agent stack. Be aware of the flip side, though: GoHighLevel's AI is metered, so a busy phone line at ~$0.16/minute can cost real money — run your own numbers in our GoHighLevel pricing calculator before you assume it is cheap.
Should I switch from Ontraport to GoHighLevel?
Switch if you want AI answering your phone and booking appointments, if you serve multiple clients and need white-labeled sub-accounts, or if your contact ladder and $49 per-user charges have quietly outgrown a flat $297. Do not switch if the thing keeping your business alive is an intricate branching campaign you built in Ontraport's visual builder, or a custom-object data model — rebuilding either in GoHighLevel will feel like a demotion every day for a month. Run both in parallel for a fortnight and rebuild your single most important campaign before you cancel anything.
Is Ontraport a good option if I never want AI at all?
It is one of the better ones, and that is a legitimate position to hold. Ontraport's automation is rules-based, deterministic and auditable — it does what you told it to do, every time, with no token bill and no model deciding how to phrase a reply to your customer. For an established coaching or info-product business with a lifecycle campaign that already converts, "no AI, no meter, no surprises" is a feature and not a gap. We earn nothing if you stay on Ontraport. Stay anyway if that is you.
